Description

A very beautiful and quite rare set in excellent collector's condition. It includes a casual jacket with a belt, a shirt, a tie and a cap. There are iron stains on the shirt field, not visible in the assembly. The award bars are installed originally by the owner. The regimental insignia of the 1st Airborne Army are reinforced on the shoulder straps (this type of insignia existed only in 1944-45), where the owner of the kit served, as well as rectangles corresponding to the rank of 2nd lieutenant in the US Army. The size is about 48. Guarantee of authenticity.

History

The First Allied Airborne Army is an Allied formation formed on August 2, 1944 by order of General Dwight D. Eisenhower, Supreme Commander of the Allied Expeditionary Forces. The formation was part of the Allied Expeditionary Force and controlled all Allied airborne forces in Western Europe from August 1944 to May 1945. These included the 9th U.S. Aircraft Carrier Command, the XVIII U.S. Airborne Corps, which controlled the 17th, 82nd and 101st Airborne Divisions. and a number of separate airborne units, all British airborne forces, including the 1st and 6th Airborne Divisions, as well as the 1st Polish Parachute Brigade. From its inception until the end of World War II, the unit commanded Allied airborne forces that took part in the Allied offensive in Northwestern Europe, including Operation Market Garden in September 1944, repelling the German counteroffensive launched during the Battle of the Bulge from December 1944 to January 1945 and Operation "University" in March 1945. After the surrender of Nazi Germany, the formation was disbanded, and on May 20, 1945, the constituent units returned to their national armies.
