Heavy metal, stamping, gilding. The original medal is in excellent condition. On the obverse of the medal (diameter - 32 millimeters) the polar explorer is depicted in full height, to the left and to the right of which (horizontal) inscription: «ANTARCTICA SERVICE» (rus. "For service in Antarctica"). On the reverse there is a contour image of the globe, and an inscription on it (each word from a new line): «COURAGE; SACRIFICE; DEVOTION» (rus. "Bravery, sacrifice, devotion"). On the original shoe. Guarantee of authenticity.
The Antarctic Service Medal is a state award of the US Armed Forces, awarded by the Ministry of Defense for participation in expeditions and providing work carried out in Antarctica after January 1, 1946. The medal is awarded to US Army servicemen, American citizens and foreigners (in these cases, it is permissible to wear an award badge on civilian clothes) who have spent 15 to 30 days in Antarctica (the continent south of the 60th parallel of south latitude, according to the Antarctic Treaty). For flight crews carrying out transport missions, each flight completed within 24 hours is equivalent to one day of service.
The Medal "For Service in Antarctica" was established by the US Congress (86th convocation) on July 7, 1960.
