Historical background: Tomas Garrigue Masaryk (the Czech. Tomas Garrigue Masaryk, the name is often abbreviated as TGM; March 7, 1850, Hiding (hodonín), Moravia, Austrian Empire - 14 September 1937, Lana, Czechoslovakia) - Czech sociologist and philosopher, public and statesman, one of the leaders of the movement for the independence of Czechoslovakia, and after gaining her independence - first President of the Republic of (1918-1935). His wife Charlotte Garrigue, whose name he took as his second name, was an American, and during the First world war he was arrested by the Austrian authorities. Their son Jan Masaryk was the Minister of foreign Affairs of the Czech emigre government and then in 1945-1948, was killed after the Communist coup in unclear circumstances. From Tomas and Charlotte had three more children.
In Hodonin a Museum Masaryk. His name was given to many streets, avenues and stations. The biggest race of the Czech Republic named route Masaryk (the Czech. Masarykuv okruh). Also bears his name town in the North of Israel - Kfar Masaryk.
