Yermolaev Adrian Mikhailovich (1900-1977) — Soviet artist, graphic artist and illustrator; member of the Union of Artists of the USSR. Born on August 25 (September 7), 1900 in the city of Rostov-on-Don in a working-class family. In 1904, his parents moved to Saratov, where he graduated from the gymnasium in 1915. In 1915-1918 he studied in Saratov at the Bogolyubov Drawing School (now the Saratov Art School named after A. P. Bogolyubov). He was a participant in the Civil War: from 1919 to 1922 he fought in the Chapaev Division and the Don Army. After the end of the war, in 1922-1925, he continued to work in Saratov as a draftsman-cartographer, an artist of the circus and the city theater. In 1925-1927 he studied at the Graphic Faculty of the Art and Industrial College in Leningrad (now the St. Petersburg Art College named after N. K. Roerich), among his teachers were N. I. Dormidontov, V. S. Svarog and P. A. Shillingovsky. Since 1927, Adrian Ermolaev worked in Moscow. Since 1936 he collaborated with Detgiz publishing house. During the Great Patriotic War, Ermolaev went to the front, which resulted in a number of his works on the military theme. He continued his cooperation as an illustrator with the publishing houses "Children's Literature", "Soviet Writer", "Young Guard"; illustrated the works of Gaidar, Kassil, Marshak, Barto. He died on December 30, 1977 in Moscow.
