The 10th Luftwaffe Reconnaissance Group "Tannenberg" was established on November 1, 1938 in Neuhausen. It consisted of 4 squadrons, the 1st, 2nd and 4th (equipped with Henkels-126, later Focke-Wulf-189) of which were short-range reconnaissance squadrons. Squadrons of the group participated in combat operations in Poland, France, Holland, Belgium. 1 squadron participated in the Russian campaign from June 1941. Performed reconnaissance missions for the VII Army Corps in the central sector of the Eastern Front.It was almost completely destroyed during the Battle of Stalingrad. The 2nd squadron, after participating in the Balkan campaign, was transferred to the USSR in June 1942, where in May 1942 it became part of the 10th short-range reconnaissance group, and in September 1942 — the 9th short-range reconnaissance group. The 3rd Squadron, equipped with Do-17F (from June 1941 with Junkers-88), took part in the Russian campaign from June 1941 and carried out reconnaissance missions as part of the 18th Army in the northern sector of the Eastern Front. Disbanded in 1943. The 4th Squadron was fully formed in May 1941, equipped with He-126. In August 1941, she was transferred to Vitebsk. Here the squadron performed reconnaissance missions for the 5th Army Corps in the northern sector of the Eastern Front. In 1942, the squadron of the 7th short-range reconnaissance Group was assigned to the southern section of the Eastern Front and destroyed in Stalingrad in February 1942.
